Another tried restaurant from the World's Best Restaurant - not any restaurant.. THE NUMBER 1 RESTAURANT on the list!
Mirazur, Menton, France
You may have heard that Mirazur in Menton, France was voted best restaurant in the world at the World’s 50 Best awardslast year. Sadly because of the recent pandemic, no updated list was released for 2020 which leaves Mirazur on top of the list for an additional year.
I was fortunate enough to find availability and eat there (Thank you Covid-19 and the lack of tourists in the South of France)
Chef Mauro Colagreco, a genius in the culinary world, named it Mirazur, a mix of two Spanish words: see and blue because it overlooks the French Riviera, Mediterranean sea and the sunset if you are there for dinner.
The dinner experience is divided into two sections. The first one starts once you arrive and are guided to a garden, (only to realize the confirmation booking said wear relaxed clothes and comfortable shoes and you never listened), this is where some of Mauro’s vegetables and fruits are cultivated. There you will find a picnic-like cloth is laid down for you with a food basket to start your journey.
You won’t know what menu is served on the day, until you arrive. The chef has had couple of months (while on lockdown) to reflect, create and ultimately change his menu structure to feature an ever-changing Lunar Menu driven by the cycle of nature. You will say what does that mean? Basically, based on the moon changes and cycle, the menu courses would either be based on leaves, roots, fruits or flowers, and we were lucky roots menu day.
After the romantic-picnic seating, you are guided to the main restaurant where you will continue the journey with the core 10-courses to the experience. The food is an explosion of tastes, colours and textures, I even enjoyed 2 dishes made out of beetroots (and am certainly no fan of it generally)…
I would even dare to say that my favourite of all night was one of those two courses. The service is very efficient and friendly, something I like to see more and more in 3-stars Michelin restaurants (as opposed to the traditional fine dining Alain Ducasse style)
The entire experience was just amazing to say the least, and I will come back to try the interpretation of the leaves, fruits and flowers menus very soon.
I would love to see how the ratings will change once The Alchemist (my all-time favourite) is in the picture for the World’s 50 Best awards.
