If you know me, you'll know why I had to share this article with you... I am quite obsessed with Christmas, so I look every year for a new Christmas destination to bring me the Christmas spirit..
Here's my selection for the Top 10 Christmas Destination in the world:
1- Rovaniemi or as known as Lapland
If you want to go full on Christmas, then Lapland is the answer, I am sure you have heard of Santa's Village.. which by the way is where Santa really lives.. and the perfect place to connect with Santa and your inner child. Rovaniemi turns into a Winter Wonderland as snow covers the city starting early December, fairy lights are decked everywhere and everyone is in their jolly mood.
If you are interested to know more about Rovaniemi - check this article I wrote a while back after my visit
2 - Colmar, France
I discovered this hidden gem just few weeks ago, and Oh My God! It is just so Christmassy, the village itself is so cute, that turns entirely into a giant Christmas village where you can walk through it and visit a variety of Christmas shops, eat some traditional Flammkuchen, or drink a hot chocolate. Colmar is a 3hr trip from Paris by train.
Totally worth a visit! Would have been my number 1 choice, but we have to honour Santa's hometown... so I kept it as second on my list.
3 - Cologne, Germany
It is no secret that Germany has the best Christmas markets in the world, which is why Cologne makes
definitely top 3, with the beautiful cathedral as a backdrop to the never ending long Christmas market. They also have daily shows and musical live entertainment to entertain the little and the big ones.
4 - Dusseldorf, Germany
Another German city makes it into my list: Dusseldorf! The famous St Martins parade is a sign that Christmas is near the corner, the traditional Christmas market is staged individually in various locations throughout the city which transforms it into a Christmas heaven.
5 - London, England
This city is so magical during Christmas, it feels like every year the streets compete for the best and most innovative decoration. And to top it all up, nothing beats the amazing Winter Wonderland! I will never forget the taste of that Hot Chocolate made with Cadbury Chocolate and marshmallow.
6 - New York, U.S.A
New York for me, wins the award of the most beautiful Christmas tree - that is the Rockefeller tree of course. The city is quite big, it is difficult to get the Christmas feel but thanks to the Rockefeller center and the Fifth Avenue stunning decoration, you will definitely be in an awe-Christmas mood.
7 - Paris, France
To be honest, I should put Paris in the top 3, but Paris is known for so many things, and probably tops the charts and wins awards in every category so I decided to give other cities better ratings. From the decorated streets, the Christmas markets, the jolly Mickey and Minnie at Disneyland, Christmas is definitely all around in Paris.
8 - Munich, Germany
This list cannot be complete without a Bavarian city! Christmas in Munich is all about having a good time eating your hotdog, crepes or drinking mulled wine and beers. What I also found in München, is the joy the German people bring: everyone is quite happy, streets are full and buzzing, everyone is drinking and chatting.. all in all a good place for Christmas with friends.
9 - Strasbourg, France
Named the capital of Christmas, Strasbourg transforms into also a mini Christmas village with plenty of little huts with food, drinks and Christmas gifts to buy. The city is always busy with visitors, so make your way there late November to enjoy all what the city has to offer including the giant Christmas tree lighting ceremony.
10 - Vienna, Austria
I went there a few years back, it was actually my first German-ish Christmas market experience. Fell in love with the infused cheese hotdogs.. and been craving them since then. Vienna for me is a mini 'cleaner' version of Paris so it had to make it into this list. If you are lucky enough, it might even snow and you will get your Winter Wonderland picture perfect.
And there you go.. my list of the top 10 Christmas Destination..
